When
eBay started no one understood the concept of an online auction.
Now most everyone with access to a computer has at least taken a
look to see what everyone is talking about when they speak of
eBay. I am personally a fan of eBay. I have made many transactions
and enjoy the eBay auction format, but I also have some concerns
about eBay as a retail loss prevention professional.

Decision
Making |

We
make hundreds, if not thousands, of decisions every day. If we
were to agonize over each one, we would probably go crazy.
However, in the business world, there are clearly decisions that
carry more importance than others. Yet, aren't we all amazed at
how often decisions are made that prove to be ill-considered, if
not downright disastrous? |

"I
am amazed that even after thirty years of active civil
restitution laws, many retail loss prevention executives are
still confused about "employee restitution" vs.
"civil restitution" (also referred to as "civil
recovery" and "civil demand")." I hope to
clarify it now." |

some time working the cameras..." |

Why
Prosecution Doesn't Help |

"Book
em Danno. Cuffed and
stuffed. We
have heard all the great lingo for sending people to jail.
Our moral senses clearly tell us that when people commit a
crime, they deserve to go to jail.
If you can’t do the time, don’t do the crime, right?
That is all well and good when we are talking societal
needs, but what about the needs of the business you work for?
Is prosecuting everyone who shoplifts from your business
the best answer? Probably
not.." |
